BRITISH SPORTS by Beñat

Hockey:
Hockey is 200 years old. It became a very popular sport in English Public schools in the 19th century. Girls used to play hockey at school and boys played rugby, football and cricket. But today boys and girls play hockey.

Cricket:

Boys play cricket in the summer at school. Cricket is played professionally in about ten counties. It is very popular in Britain.


Rugby:

Rugby began in the country of Warwokshire. Rugby is popular in Britain, France, South Africa New Zealand, Australia and Basque Country.


Football:

Football is Britain's national sport. People started playing football in 1100 but public schools were the responsibles for making the game into an organized team sport, because it kept boys fit and make them competitive.

Netball:

Girls play netball at school. It is a version of the American game basketball but for girls. Over twenty million people play netball in more than seventy counties. The goal ring is on posts about 3 metres high and they dont have any backboard.

High jump:

The high jump is an Olympic sport. The men's world high jump record is 2.45 metres and the women's high jump record is 2.06 metres.
